Truckers threaten stir from January 15

The Odisha Truck Owners’ Association on Monday threatened to launch an indefinite strike from January 15 if its demands were not met by the state government.

A delegation of the Association met the transport and commerce minister Subrat Tarai to discuss the issue of fare hike and its 7-point charter of demands.

During the meeting, the Association members demanded implementation of the report of the technical committee on fare hike with immediate effect.

Informing the media after the meeting, the members said the Association would launch its indefinite strike in the state from the midnight on January 15 if its demands were not met by the government.

About 1, 30,000 trucks would stay off the road during the strike, they informed.
