Balangir, Dec 2:
The All Odisha Truck Owners’ Association has threatened to launch indefinite strike from January 15 to protest non-fulfillment of its seven-point charter of demands.
This Association announced the decision at a press briefing after its executive body meeting here on Sunday evening.
The demands include hike in freight charges, stopping harassment of truckers at the inter-state check-posts, preventing corruption by MVIs posted there and the privatisation of the registration system.
“The government last fixed freight charges in 2008 when the diesel price per litre was Rs 37 as against the present price of Rs 57. It has set up three technical committees to look into this problem since 2008. Though the committees have submitted their reports, they are yet to be implemented. Though the Association has appraised the issues to Transport minister Subrat Tarai, the latter has had no time for talks,” alleged Association secretary Rabi Satpathy.
