Bhubaneswar, June 25:
Odisha Food, Supply and Consumer affairs Minister Sanjay Dasburma is sinking deeper into the quagmire over his alleged involvement in carrying out unauthorized construction in the state capital, with the BJP today taking the issue to the streets demanding his resignation from his post.
The youth wing of BJP today held a demonstration and burnt the effigies of Dasburma and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the issue. Demanding the immediate resignation of Dasburma, the BJP youth wing said the minister must face judicial action notwithstanding his repeated claims that he had quit the concerned construction company in September 2006.
“After the Housing and Urban Development minister, in his reply on the floor of the Assembly, stated that Dasburma is among other 423 builders involved in illegal construction, the Supply minister should have immediately resigned on moral grounds,” said Thakur Ranjit Das, general secretary of the youth wing.
In what could mean more trouble for the Minister, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has now said that it was informed about his resignation only six days ago.
BDA secretary Ranjan Kumar Das said the new management of the company, Neelachal Builders, informed the court trying cases of illegal construction in the city on June 18, two days before the reply was submitted in the assembly, that Dasburma had resigned from it since 2006.
Dasburma is in the dock after his name figured in the list of builders which carried out unauthorised construction in the capital city.
Housing and Urban Development minister Puspendra Singh Deo presented the list of builders facing trial for unauthorized constructions in the assembly last week, which had Dasbruma’s name in it.
