The Centre is planning to prepare a Tribal Map of India to facilitate smooth implementation of different programmes meant for the welfare of adivasis in the country, an official release issued by the Union ministry of tribal affairs (MTA) today quoted minister Jual Oram as saying.
Geographical Information System (GIS) technology will be utilized to prepare the Tribal Map of India, said Oram. He said it will be immensely helpful in tracking the progress of different programmes, new schemes and projects for tribal people.
The Union minister said information technology will help in closely monitoring different ongoing programmes, projects and plans aimed at welfare of tribal people and development of tribal areas.
The map will be helpful in getting detailed information regarding different aspects such as status, expenditure, beneficiaries of the programmes and schemes in the public domain and everybody would have access to it, he said.
The Sundergarh strongman Oram, who is himself a tribal, stated that a massive awareness campaign will be launched to make people aware of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, Oram said he would meet ministers and secretaries of tribal departments of different states at regular intervals.
Oram said he was also planning to meet the tribal MPs and MLAs and involve them in implementation of different welfare schemes.
