Trap laid for boar claims woman’s life, injures minor girl in Odisha

Nabarangpur: In a highly unfortunate incident, a young woman was electrocuted to death and a minor girl sustained critical injuries after coming in contact with an electrically charged trap laid by poachers for hunting wild boars at Nagajodi village under Jharigaon block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Jalila Harijan. Lakshmi Harijan, the minor girl, has been admitted to the Nabarangpur District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition.

The incident took place when the two were returning home last night after watching a cultural programme at a nearby village. While crossing a maize field, the duo came in contact with the trap, following which Jalila died on the spot and Lakshmi was grievously injured.

Police have started investigation into the incident. Efforts were on to apprehend the person(s) who had laid the trap.
