Sambalpur, May 31:
Fashion shows are so commonplace these days that they seldom arouse much curiosity. But this one was a fashion show with a difference – one that was guaranteed to both get the eyeballs and raise eyebrows.
In a novel initiative, eunuchs and transgenders from across the country came to this western Odisha town to walk the ramp at the Samaleswari Temple square on the eve of Sheetal Sasthi on Friday night.
The 18 trasngenders who finally made the cut and displayed their oomph and skills on the ramp included some who had come from as far off as Bengaluru. But in the end, it was the local participants who walked away with the awards.
While Chinmayee Dash from Jarapada in Angul district clinched the winner’s title, Muna Mishra of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district was the runners up and Radhika Choudhury from Bolangir was the second runners up.
All the winners were presented with cash awards apart from trophies.
The fashion show was organized by Bada Bazaar Jatra committee on the occasion of the famous Sheetal Sashti Jatra in Sambalpur, which is celebrated with much fervour in Sambalpur town.
The contestants had to pass through three crucial stages of the competition: ramp show, personality test and dance.
