Three traffic police were attacked by two youths with knife at AG Square in Odisha capital today.


According to reports, an exchange of words took place between the youths and the cops after the latter intercepted the duo at AG Square as helmet checking was going on at the spot and they were riding a bike without wearing the protection.

The incident soon turned violent as they attacked the policemen with a knife.

The victims, identified as Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) personnel Mahendra Biswal, constables Rohan Swain and Gyanaranjan Das, sustained injuries on their neck and hand and were admitted to Capital Hospital here in a critical condition.

Police have detained the wrongdoers who have been identified as Tanmay Rout and Anil Rout, both hailing from Bhadrak. A case has been registered against them at the Capital police station.

“The assailants injured the policemen attacking them with a paper cutter. During questioning, the attacker said that he is a retired armed forces personnel which we are verifying,” said Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania after meeting the injured at the hospital.

The cops will be rewarded for their bravery, he said.
