Hatadihi (Keonjhar), Apr 28:
The recent tiger census in Hadagarh sanctuary in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, conducted by the Centre, has found the presence of three big cats including a tiger.
According to Nabin Chandra Nayak, ACF, of the three big cats, one is a Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) and the other two are leopards.
While the presence of an RBT has been recorded inside the Satakhutuni forest, a female leopard and her cub were spotted in Pitanau forest of the sanctuary.
The tiger census in the sanctuary had been conducted between March 6 and 16 this year, Nayak informed.
It may be mentioned that during the tiger census at the sanctuary in 2012, the forest staff had found the two Royal Bengal tigers. While one of the tigers was found in Hadagarh core forest area, the other one was found in Gadachandi forest.
“However, in the recent census, we have found the traces of just one Royal Bengal tiger”, the ACF added.
