Malkangiri, Dec 30:
Two days after Maoists blew up a bridge near Padia in an apparent effort to prevent security personnel from entering their stronghold, a team of top police officers visited the blast site on Monday.
The team, which also held discussions with the deputy inspector general (DIG) of Border Security Force (BSF), included ADG (Intelligence) Sunil Roy, IG (Operation) Soumendra Priyadarshi and IG, South-Western range Jaswant Jethwa.
On Saturday, a group of around 50 armed Maoists and their supporters triggered a blast using powerful explosives to destroy the bridge on River Poteru snapping the road link between Kalimela and Padia in the district.
The ultras also left behind a handwritten poster at the spot which claimed that the blast was in retaliation for the continuing anti-Maoist operations in the district as well as the Silakota encounter in September 2012, in which around 13 Maoists were killed.
On December 25, armed Maoists had used explosives to destroy the block office building at Padia in the district.
