Phulbani, Sep 5:
Security has been beefed up in Odisha’s Kandhamal district for observance of the eighth death anniversary of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati today.
As many as 25 platoons of police forces have been deployed in the district to prevent any mischief while strict vigil is being maintained on the Chakapada and Jalespeta ashrams set up by the late Hindu leader, Kandhamal SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said.
Laxmanananda Saraswati, along with four of his followers, was brutally hacked on Janmashtami night seven years ago triggering a month-long pogrom that left at least 44 Christians dead. At least and 4956 houses were torched during the riot.
Meanwhile, preparations are complete for the observance of the death anniversary of Swami Laxmanananda at his Chakapada ashram. The organisers have arranged yajna and sankirtan at the ashram.
