Three members of inter-state train dacoity gang nabbed in Odisha

In a joint operation, Goverment Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials arrested three members of an inter-state train dacoity gang from Bhubaneswar railway station in Odisha capital yesterday. They were forwarded to court today.


The accused Amar Kumar Mandal (25), Milan Kumar Mandal (22) and Jyotish Mandal (40)– all hailing from Bihar were followed by a team of RPF and GRP staff from Bhadrak railway station to Bhubaneswar railway station. They were apprehended on board Howrah-Trichi (T-12663) express train while they were planning to loot passengers last night.

While three members of the gang were arrested, three others managed to give a slip to the sleuths from the moving train.

Several incriminating articles including three rounds of live ammunition, two bhujalis, a toy pistol, two chilly powder packets, cash, four mobile phones, SIM cards, blade, and voter ID cards, were recovered from their possession.

“They are involved in several train loot cases registered with various GRP stations of Odisha and other states. Their involvement in other cases is under investigation. They were forwarded to court today,” Bhubaneswar GRP police station IIC Soubhagya Kumar Swain said.

A case (160 Dt 29.11.2015) was registered with Bhubaneswar GRP. They were booked under section 399/402 IPC/25 of Arms Act.
