Titlagarh, Jul 21:
Three persons were killed when an express train rammed into a the bike while it was crossing an unmanned level crossing at Titidunguri, about 2.5 km from Titlagarh railway station in Odisha’s Bolangir district this morning.
According to reports, three members of a family of Gunjitara village were on the way to Titlagarh town in the morning on a bike.
The bike, while crossing the rail track at an unmanned level crossing at Titidunguri, was hit by the Sambalpur-Rayagada Tapaswini Express killing all three on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Niranjan Sahu, his wife Nilendri Sahu and niece Puja Sahu.
The incident took place at about 9 AM.
Tension ran high in the area after the mishap as the people of Gunjitara village rushed to the spot and blocked the railway track demanding compensation to the family of the deceased.
Till reports last came in, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel from Titlagarh have rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Police are trying to persuade the irate locals to withdraw the blockade
The locals alleged that though it was an unmanned level crossing, the railway authorities had engaged a railway guard on duty. But there was no railway guard at the time of the mishap today, they said.
Besides, it is very difficult to take notice of an approaching train as the unmanned level crossing is situated after a bend on the track.
The local people have been demanding a railway over bridge in the area since a long time, the reports added.
