Three held for gang raping woman in Odisha

Police today arrested three persons in Odisha’s Sundargarh district today for raping a married woman in presence of her husband on June 14.

rapeThe arrested have been identified as Ajit Banchua (22), Jagabandhu Behera (28) and Dibya Lochan Apat (23) of Timulia village under Talsara police station limits.

Talking to the newsmen, Sadar SDPO PK Mohanty said the accused had entered into the house of the married woman of Bhandaripokhari village at around 10 pm in the night on June 14.

As the woman opened the door, they requested her for drinking water. As she went to the kitchen, the accused followed her and locked the door from inside.

Later, they put a gun on her head and asked her to keep quite. They also threatened her husband who woke up from sleep. Later, they raped the woman one after another in front of her husband.

Before leaving the spot, the accused threatened the couple to kill them if they reveal the incident to anyone.

The couple, who did not lodge the complaint in police station as the accused frequently threatened them, later moved to another village out of fear.

However, police came to know about the incident following a tip-off.

Later, a team of police, led by the Sadar SDPO, met the couple and assured them of all cooperation.

Following assurance, the couple lodged the complaint on June 19.

“Acting on the complaint, police nabbed the three accused who confessed to their crime during interrogation”, the SDPO said.
