In what could be dubbed as a major success for police, three hardcore Maoists, including a woman cadre, involved in some daring acts of violence today surrendered at the police headquarters in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
The ultras, who carried rewards of Rs 1 lakh each on their head, have been identified as Irma Kabasi, Era Madkami and Radhika.
Irma, belonging to the Chhattisgarh division, was allegedly involved in the killing of Congress leaders in Darbha Valley in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh in 2013. The other two were active in Kalimela area in Malkangiri for over eight years. Besides, the trio was involved in more than 29 cases, police said.
They were also involved in a landmine blast at MPV 126 village and Padia block office blast, police said.
“Three wanted Maoists have surrendered before the police today. They are: Irma Kabasi, Era Madkami and Radhika. The major incidents in which Irma was involved are– killing of Chhattisgarh’s tribal Congress leader Mahendra Karma at Darbha Valley and other political leaders. Besides, they were involved in Chintalnar police outpost attack, many ambushes and assaults including killing of innocent people since 2013 in Malkangiri district,” Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said.
Describing the surrender of the members of the outlawed group as a major success for police, the SP said they would be rehabilitated as per government’s policy.
