Balasore, Jun 29:
Odisha police have arrested two more accused persons, including the brother of prime accused Papa Panda, in connection with the murder of dreaded criminal Sushanta Das alias Khasua, police said today.
According to reports, Sahadevkhunta police arrested Tanmay Panda alias Kunu Panda, brother of main accused Papa Panda, and one of his associates Chagulu Biswal from Bhadrak and Balasore last night for their alleged complicity in the crime.
“Two more persons have been arrested in the case. They were present on the spot when the incident occurred at Sobharampur. They have direct involvement in the case. They have confessed to their involvement in the case,” Balasore SP Niti Sekhar said.
Notably, the 38-year-old was hacked to death by some assailants near Sobharampur while he was on his way to mediate between groups of two villages under Sahadevkhunta police station on June 22 evening.
The wife of the deceased—Anita Das—had alleged that Papa Panda was behind the gruesome killing of her husband.
Earlier, Khasua, who is allegedly involved in more than a dozen criminal cases including murder, dacoity, highway robbery and extortion, was booked under National Security Act (NSA) and jailed. His gang was active in robberies on NH-60 and NH-5. It may be mentioned here that several cases are pending against Khasua in different police stations in at least three districts in the state.
Notably, Khasua was out on bail barely five days of his murder.
