Three arrested in Odisha lawyer murder case

A special team of Odisha police today arrested three persons from Raikia in Kandhamal district for their alleged involvement in the murder of lawyer Hemant Sahoo on November 10.

The arrested persons have been identified as Duryodhan Sahoo, his mother Kunti Sahoo and sister Uma Sahoo.

“We have arrested three persons today. While Duryodhan Sahoo and Uma Sahoo are the main conspirators and the main accused in the case, Kunti Sahoo has been arrested in connection with a case in 2004. We are investigating into the matter to find out her involvement in this case,” Boudh SP B Gangadhar said.

It may be mentioned that Hemant Sahoo was hacked to death at Bahira village under Baunsuni police station limits in Boudh district on Tuesday morning. Sahoo was attacked with sharp weapons by some assailants while he was on a morning walk. A profusely bleeding Hemant succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Notably, the deceased was also a former block president of district BJP and was also the convenor of the party district unit legal cell.

Lawyers across the state have called for a cease work today demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of Hemant Sahoo.
