“There is no threat to Hirakud Dam and electricity generation is no way affected” said Prasanna Mohanty, chief engineer (Dam Safety) Odisha, who headed the four-member expert committee that inspected the crack in the gallery 470 of the dam today.
While admitting that there is leakage through the crack in in the reservoir at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, Mohanty said this can be repaired by engineers in Odisha and that there is no cause for any alarm.
The chief engineer said another team of experts will be inspecting the cracks on June 15.
Mohanty was accompanied by other team members’ deputy director Lingaraj Gouda, retired chief engineer (Dam Safety) Sudhakar Patri and Ramesh Rath during the inspection.
