The 3rd annual convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar in Odisha will be held tomorrow.
Briefing newsmen here this afternoon, director, IIT-Bhubaneswar Prof Sujit Roy said that the scientific adviser to the Defence minister and secretary, Defence (R&D) Avinash Chander and director general, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) SK Rungta would attend the convocation.
He said the institute would confer degrees to 172 graduates. Besides, the institute, for the first time, would confer degrees to 39 M.Tech students, 124 B. Tech students and doctorates to nine research scholars, he added.
While the President of India Gold Medal will be awarded to Soumya Prakash Dash, B.Tech student of School of Electrical Sciences, the Director’s Gold Medal will be awarded to Asha Vijayeta, M.Tech student of School of Earth, Ocean and Climate change.
Similarly, B.Tech students Soumya Prakash Dash, D Revanth and K Yuvraj Balaji Rao and outgoing M.Tech students Asha Vijayeta, Saragadam Shakar and N Anand Balu would be conferred with the Institute Silver Medal.
Besides, five endowment awards—BK De Memorial Award for most innovative project, Dinesh Memorial Award for best B.Tech thesis in Mechanical Science, Tejaswi Memorial Award for best B.Tech thesis in Electrical Science, Professor P Rama Rao Award for lady graduate and Dr K Kasturirangan Award for best outgoing graduate— will be given, Roy informed.
He, however, said the institute will not confer any DSc (honoris causa) in this year’s convocation.
