Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister declared today that the age limit of doctors for contractual engagement will be extended by two years.

Talking about the implementation of a new health policy at the Chief District Medical (CDM) & Public Health Officers’ (PHOs) Conference at state secretariat today, the minister said that the retirement age of contractual doctors will be increased from 68 years to 70 years.

He further directed the CDMOs to recruit contractual doctors, if required.

The CDMOs have also been instructed to submit a report to the Health department on the number of vacant doctors’ posts in state-run hospitals by July 15.

Worth mentioning, a roadmap of 100 days will be prepared at the two-day CDM and PHOs’ Conference on Priority Programmes and Schemes under NHM and state budget.

Notably, Das seems to be in action after he assumed his office as the Health Minister in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s new team. Taking precautionary measure in view of the rising AES casualties in Bihar, he has directed the officials for sample test of litchi fruits being sold in markets after the health experts raised suspicion over the fruits for its alleged links to the disease.
