Tension in city after Tavera knocks down one, injures another

Tension prevailed near Sai Mandir in Tankapani area under Sahid Nagar police limits here today following a road accident, which claimed the life of a person and left one injured.

According to the police, a Tavera bearing registration number (OR-02-BC-3177) travelling towards Kesura knocked down the duo riding a motorcycle, when they were negotiating a cut on the square near Sai Mandir.

While Muralidhar Jena (60) of Badagada, driving his two-wheeler bearing number- (OR-02-BD-7475) died on the spot, another person Dhaneswar Patnaik was injured seriously and admitted to Hi-tech hospital. The driver managed to flee.

The body of the deceased was taken to Capital hospital for autopsy by the police.

Following the fatal accident, angry relatives of the deceased blocked the roads for an hour. The irate mob pelted stones at the Tavera and damaged its glass panes and subsequently torched down the vehicle.

The police personnel rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the crowd, which demanded the immediate arrest of the bus driver.

“We are investigating the matter and have launched a search operation to nab the driver,” the police said.
