Tension after charred body of youth is found in ashram

Salepur, Sep 12:

Armed policemen were deployed at an ashram in Salepur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district after enraged locals ransacked the ashram following the discovery of a half-charred body of a youth from the mutt premises.


The deceased identified as Ashok Kumar Patra of Chahapada village was allegedly murdered before being set afire in the Anantatma ashram premises.

After the body was found in the ashram, locals ran amok and set some vehicles in the premises on fire.

As tension prevailed in the area, Salepur SDPO rushed to the spot and began investigation into the matter.

“The Baba has been detained at the police station for questioning. The interrogation is on and we suspect the involvement of over five persons in the incident. We are trying to control the mob now,” Salepur SDPO Suryakanta Ray said.

Meanwhile, armed policemen have been deployed in the ashram to bring the situation under control.

Anandatma Baba has been detained at the Salepur police station for questioning, reports said.
