Temporary respite from heat wave as mercury levels slump

After nearly three weeks of unrelenting heat, temperature levels came down to tolerable limits in most places in Odisha today.

A strong inflow of southerly and south-westerly sea breeze subdued the heat factor across the coastal areas. In Bhubaneswar the wind speed reached 40 kmph during the day, the local Met office said.Heat Wave Temp

Chandbali, Cuttack, Baripada, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh, Phulbani and Malkangiri clocked 40 degree today, nearly 2 degree less than the average temperature over the past seven days.

While Bhawanipatna was the hottest place on Saturday with 42.8 degree Celsius, temperature went up to 40 degree and above in Bhubaneswar (40.7), Angul (41.7), Jharsuguda (41.4), Hirakud (41.3), Talcher (42), Bolangir (41.3), Titlagarh (42.5) and Sonepur (41).

In a release, the local Met office here has predicted that the temperature is likely to come down further due to possibility of rain or thundershower at some places in the state in the next 72 hours.

However, there is every likely that the temperature would rise again after May 6.
