Bhubaneswar, Apr 14:

The partial reprieve from sweltering heat owing to partly cloudy weather in most of the state is going to last only three more days as temperature across Odisha is likely to rise after April 17, the weatherman has predicted.

Heat Wave Temp

“The wind blowing across the Bay of Bengal through the state to north India has resulted in a dip in temperature in the last few days. The westerly hot winds from Pakistan will blow and pass through Odisha from April 17 contributing to a significant rise in temperature,” Agrometerologist Dr Surendra Nath Pashupalak said.

The weather in most parts of the state is expected to be partially cloudy. Nor’wester, thundershowers with squall/hail would occur at few places in western Odisha on April 14 and a day later in southern Odisha. The maximum temperature across the state would remain unchanged till April 16.

However, temperature would rise from April 17 as hot winds will blow from western part of the country to the eastern part. The maximum temperature would touch 40 degree celsius around April 20 in some parts in western and northern Odisha, Dr Pashupalak said.

Around April 21, the mercury would hover around 40 in central Odisha, including Bhubaneswar.

With the increase in the temperature, paddy crops are likely to be infected with black rot due to bacterial infection (Xanthomonas campestris pv). The farmers are advised to mix 1.5 gram of Streptocycline in 10 litres of water and spray it on the crops, Dr Pashupalak advised.
