To manage the uncertainties and constraints in the normal agriculture cycle, fish farming is being time and again encouraged as a viable livelihood alternative.
For boosting productivity and harping upon capacity building of the prospective fish farmers around Tata Steel’s Gopalpur Project, a capacity building programme on ‘Promotion of Sustainable Pisciculture through Better Management Practices’ was organised in coordination with TSRDS.
The training comprised of 35 participants from five villages namely Basanputti, Kalipalli, Sauntia Paikapada, Jagannathpur and Madua belonging to Rangeilunda and Chhatrapur gram panchayats of Ganjam district.
During the technical sessions important aspects like water treatment, right frequency and appropriate time for fish feeds and identifying symptoms of diseases with remedial course of action were elaborately deliberated upon along with answering queries raised during open discussion.
The participating farmers appreciated Tata Steel’s endeavours for boosting up income generating activities through such properly articulated livelihood options.
