Talcher, Dec 1:
Local MLA Brajakishore Sahu who was sent to the sub-divisional jail here on Saturday night after his bail plea was rejected by the SDJM court, Angul has launched a protest hunger strike, official sources said.
Sahu has been implicated in at least 10 cases over the Friday clashes at the railway siding in Jagannath Colliery as well as other incidents.
The PCC president Jayadev Jena has disapproved of the government’s move to arrest an MLA when the assembly is in session, Health minister and senior BJD leader Dr Damodar Rout has expressed concern over the development.
” As the PCC president, I find it unacceptable that someone who is fighting for jobs to the local people is victimised in such manner,” Jena said.
Dr Damodar Rout said he was not aware of the details of the case but the arrest of an MLA during the assembly session was certainly a matter of concern.
“Let the police spell out the charges against him. Only then we will be able to say whether such action was justified or not,” the minister said.
