Bhubaneswar, Dec 2:
Additional District Sessions Judge (ADJ) Kiran Kumar Patnaik on Monday granted bail to Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in creating labour unrest in Jagannath Colliery area on Friday.
However, the prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC, which was clamped on Sunday, will continue to be in force till tomorrow morning in the Talcher Municipality, South Balanda, Dera and Handidhua areas, said police sources.
At least four persons, including the local MLA, were injured when retrenched workers and people from nearby villages led by the legislator clashed with the local contractor’s men at the railway siding in the Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL)-run Jagannath Colliery on Friday.
The trouble at the coalfields began when police took 89 people, including the legislator, into custody and allowed a contractor to resume work at two railway sidings on Thursday.
There has been a hue and cry over the arrest of an MLA when the state Assembly is in session with even senior BJD leader Damodar Rout expressing serious concern over the matter.
