Bhubaneswar, Dec 2:
Talcher MLA Brajakishore Pradhan today called off his hunger strike following requests by a delegation of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), which met him at the Talcher subdivisional jail.
A three member-delegation led by PCC vice-president Sivananda Ray met the party supported Independent law maker and requested him to call off the hunger strike.
The MLA had refused to take food after his arrest on Saturday evening.
“Pradhan has called off the hunger strike following our request. We termed the arrest undemocratic and it should be inquired into thoroughly by an independent body,” said Ray to media persons.
He also demanded immediate release of Talcher MLA.
Prior to the visit of the Congress delegation, former PCC president Niranjan Patnaik accompanied by Dhenkanal Congress president Sudhir Samal held discussions with the sub-collector and jail officials about the arrangements made to monitor the failing health of Pradhan.
Senior Congress leader Sriballav Panigrahi, who also met Pradhan, demanded a CBI probe into the incident and blamed the district and police administration for the unrest in the area.
The arrested MLA Pradhan said he was a victim of a political conspiracy.
