Bhubaneswar, Oct 1:
Even as eight persons including a Maoist leader were convicted by a court in Kandhamal district for the murder of senior VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four others, the state BJP today demanded the arrest of the main culprits immediately.
“The main culprits involved in the killing of VHP leader are still at large. While they are moving freely, the inefficient state government led by Naveen Patnaik has failed to put them behind the bar. So, we demand the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime,” said Sajjan Sharma, state BJP spokesperson in a press release here.
He also accused that the so-called secular chief minister is doing politics over the issue, which is condemnable.
Additional Sessions Judge Rajendra Kumar Tosh today held Pulari Rama Rao alias Uday, a Maoist leader from Andhra Pradesh, guilty of involvement in the murder of Laxmanananda and four of his disciples during Janmastami celebrations on August 23, 2008, at an ashram in Kandhamal district.
Seven persons were convicted by the court in the sensational murder case yesterday. The sentence will be pronounced on October 3.
The murder triggered communal violence leaving 37 dead and a large number of houses and places of worship damaged in Kandhamal district.
