A large scale sanitation campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission was kicked off here at the Bhubaneswar railway station in Odisha by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti today.
Union minister Pradhan administered the oath on sanitation and cleanliness to the large public gathering at Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
Local MP Prasanna Patasani was also present on the occasion.
The guests took up brooms and led the large number of volunteers at the Bhubaneswar railway station in the cleaning exercise.
Awareness programmes on sanitation and cleanliness in the form of folk dances, street plays and magic shows were organized on the occasion. These programmes, which kept the audience captivated, sent a very strong message on cleanliness to the public.
The function was also attended by A K Behera, Executive Director, Railway Board and presided over by S K Singh, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road.
Similar cleanliness activities were organized at all railway stations and railway colonies under the East Coast Railway jurisdiction, a ECoR release said.
