Deceased Madhab Sabar (55) was suspected of killing fellow villagers through witchcraft.

Police today arrested seven persons in this connection while further investigation in the matter is on.

“After receiving the complaint on Sunday, we visited the village today. We visited the spot where Madhab was allegedly killed. Prime accused Rabi Das in presence of witnesses took us to the cremation ground. From there we collected few bones of deceased Madhab. We have also seized the empty container of the pesticide which Madhab was forced to consume. We have arrested seven persons. Further investigations are on,” informed Gunupur IIC Nirmal Panigrahi to reporters.

Reports said on August 21 at around 8 PM villagers collectively asked Madhab to out of his house. He was allegedly taken to the middle of the village.

While villagers interrogated him, Madhab remained silent. Finally, villagers decided to kill him. Villagers killed him by forcing him to consume pesticide. Later they cremated his body at the village cremation ground.
