The Additional District Judge (ADJ) court here in Odisha capital has granted bail to disgraced godman Sura Baba of Trahi Achyuta ashram alias Surendra Mishra in a case pertaining to attacks on Dalit youth and women.
The court while granting bail to Sura baba on Wednesday rejected the bail pleas of his two sons.
However, Sura Baba continues to remain in jail as four more cases are pending against him.
It may be mentioned here that five cases against Sura Baba and his two sons were registered at the Balipatna police station first.
Later, these cases were transferred to the Crime Branch police. Currently, Crime Branch is investigating these cases.
On the evening of August 30, locals had barged in into the Trahi Achyuta ashram at Jhinti Sasan on the outskirts of Odisha capital following reports of land encroachment and women exploitation at the ashram premises.
Angry locals had gone on a rampage inside the ashram premises and set fire to properties which included vehicles.
Following the rampage Sura Baba’s Lal Bahini (private police) and villagers had scuffles. Dalit villagers had lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
