The Pottangi police today registered case against five Maoists for their alleged involvement in the Sunki ghat landmine blast which claimed lives of eight policemen.
The red rebels against whom case has been registered are Koraput-Srikakulam Maoist division chief Suresh, Karuna, Ranjit, Malesu and Aandru.
The police also submitted list of items seized from the blast site in Koraput Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court.
Police also prayed the court for forensic examination of the seized items.
The plea of police to handover the case to Crime Branch was accepted by the court.
Notably, eight policemen of Odisha police died and five others were critically injured in the landmine blast in Sunki ghat on February 1 while 13 assistant drivers and driver havildar were travelling in a police vehicle towards Angul to attend a training programme.
