Bhubaneswar, Aug 2:
A day after jail authorities filed a complaint with Laxmisagar police station, Commissionerate police today filed two cases against chit fund firm AT Group CMD Pradip Sethi in connection with his alleged suicide attempt inside Jharpada Special Jail in Odisha capital late on Saturday night.
According to reports, the Laxmisagar police have registered two cases against the Ponzi firm head under Sections 309 (attempt to suicide) and 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of IPC.
Notably, Jharpada Jail superintendent Rabindranath Swain had filed a complaint with the Laxmisagar police yesterday.
“Pradip Sethi had attempted to commit suicide by slashing his wrist at around 9.30 pm on Saturday. He had suffered a minor injury on his hand. The jail medical officer has submitted a report in this regard,” IG (Prisons) Arun Kumar Ray had informed media yesterday.
“Sethi had threatened to commit suicide. It is a cognizable offence under law. So, the jail authorities have filed a case against him,” he had added.
If required we would seek court’s permission to shift Sethi to a single cell, the top cop had said.
