Sudarsan invokes Laxmi to save falling rupee

As the free-falling rupee crossed the psychological threshold of 65 against the dollar on Thursday, which incidentally is Goddess Mahalaxmi’s day, internationally acclaimed artist Sudarsan Pattnaik invoked the goddess of wealth to save the sinking rupee by creating a 4-feet high sand sculpture titled ‘Save Rupee’ on the Puri beach. The invocation to Laxmi seemed entirely appropriate since Messrs Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram appear to have thrown in the towel in their battle against the falling rupee.
