Puri, Dec 24:
On the eve of Christmas celebrations, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created what is purported to be the world’s biggest sand sculpture of Lord Jesus on the Puri beach.
The sand sculpture, 35 feet in height and 75 ft in width, of Lord Jesus will find a place in the Limca Book of Records. “I received an official letter from the Limca Book of Record’s senior editor Arthy Muthanna Singh to proceed,” said ace sculptor, who already has seven entries in the Limca Book of Records.
Pattnaik used about 1000 tonnes of sand, including coloured sand, to create the sculpture which has a huge Santa Claus in front of the image of Lord Jesus with the message “World Peace”. He has also created a sand sculpture of Mother Mary.
The master sculptor, assisted by 25 of his disciples at the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute of Puri, took three days to build the mammoth sculpture.
The record making sculpture will be on display till January 1 and is expected to be seen by thousands of tourists and pilgrims who throng the temple town around this time of the year.
Sudarsan has participated in 50 international sand sculpture championships and has won a number of accolades for the country.
