Bhubaneswar, Mar 16:
Students of Odisha’s Utkal University of Culture (UUC) today locked down the gates of the university demanding better infrastructure and placement facilities among others.
While the teaching staff and administration tried to hold talks with the angry students, no agreement was reached till last reports came in.
The students have been demanding a better library, provision of study material, musical instrument and placement assistance.
“We have been putting forward our demands time and again but to no avail. We are agitating for the fourth time today. Every time we demand better infrastructure, the administration asks us to wait until the university is shifted to the new campus. Besides, what good is it without placement facilities,” questioned Mukteswar Senapati, a student leader.
“We understand that the students are upset about lack of infrastructure. The government has allocated a 50 acre land for us in Madanpur and construction is going on in full swing there. We expect it to be inaugurated by the second week of April. I understand that the issues pertaining to infrastructure would be addressed once we shift. So far as other issues are concerned, we are still talking to the students,” said Vice Chancellor of the university Debendra Jena.
