Bhubaneswar, Aug 23
The Central Action Committee (CAC) of the All Western Odisha Bar Association (AWOBA) on Friday decided to raise two issues – disbanding of the Justice CR Pal Commission and setting up of a High Court bench in the region during the meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to be held on Saturday at the State Secretariat here.
“We will present our demands before the Chief Minister during the meeting tomorrow. We want disbanding of the Justice Pal commission and a recommendation to the Central government by the state government for setting up of an HC bench in Western Odisha”, said Ashok Das, convenor of CAC, which is spearheading the movement for a High Court bench in the region.
Notably, the HC lawyers today observed a day-long cease work as a token protest against the ongoing agitation in western Odisha.
Law Minister Maheswar Mohanty sounded quite hopeful about the meeting. The minister said a solution would definitely come out of the discussion.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association at Balasore started its two-day cease work stir making a similar demand for a permanent bench of Orissa HC in north Odisha. The next course of action would be decided after consultations with the associations of other districts in the region, namely Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Keonjhar of northern Odisha, sources said.
