Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today wrote to his Chhattisgarh counterpart urging him to stop all kinds of construction on the upper catchment of Mahanadi.
Further, in his letter, Padhi briefed the Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary about Odisha’s decision pertaining to filing of petition with the Union Government over formation of a tribunal to sort out the water sharing dispute between the states.
“We have requested them to stop all kind of ongoing construction activities. Besides, we also demanded unrestricted supply of water to Odisha through the barrages where constructions have already been complete. We have requested them to implement it with immediate effect,” said Padhi speaking to reporters this evening.
In a related development, speaking to Sambad, Union Water Resources Development Minister Uma Bharti has said that the Central Government is not opposed to formation of a tribunal to solve the Mahanadi water sharing dispute.
