Puri, Feb 2:
The falling of a piece of stone slab from a mandap inside Sri Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri town this morning has raised doubts on the quality of repair and restoration work by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
According to reports, a piece of stone slab weighing about 30-40 kg suddenly fell from the Jalakrida Mandap near Bimala temple on the western side of the main temple in the morning hours.
However, there was no casualty as there were no devotees present at the place when the incident took place.
Soon, panic gripped inside the temple. The temple police rushed to the spot and debarred the devotees from visiting the area.
Following information, a team of senior ASI officials arrived at the temple.
Till reports last came in, the ASI officials were examining the rooftop of the Mandap from where the stone slab had fallen.
It may be mentioned that the ASI had completed its repair and restoration works inside the temple in December last year.
