Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch has taken over the charge of investigating the terror links of the five suspected terrorists nabbed from Rourkela today, informed a top official of the Odisha police.
“An eight-member team of the STF has already left for Rourkela today. They will be interrogating the five suspected terrorists from tomorrow. We will seek to get them on a 15-day remand. Every little detail of them will be probed. Their functioning, movements and stay in Odisha will be probed,” informed Special DG Crime Branch B K Sharma here this evening.
Four absconding Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists, who had fled from the Khandwa district jail in Madhya Pradesh in 2013 and a mother of one of them, were arrested from the Nala Road locality of Rourkela early today after an exchange of fire with a joint team of Telangana and state police.
Those apprehended have been identified as Mohd Khalid, Amjad Khan, Zakir Hussein, S Mahboob and Najma (the mother of a suspect).
These activists of the banned outfit had escaped from the district jail in MP’s Khandwa in 2013 by scaling the jail’s 14-ft high wall and police teams of multiple states were looking for them since them.
These men were also in the radar of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
A total of seven SIMI cadres had escaped from the jail on October 1, 2013.While one had surrendered the very next day of the jail break, another was caught from Madhya Pradesh the same year. The remaining five had been at large since then.
