Bhubaneswar, Sep 11:
Officials of 14 states, including Odisha and Union Territories, on Wednesday would attend a conference in New Delhi, jointly organised by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and the ministry of social justice and empowerment to discuss security of the dalits and prevention of atrocity on Scheduled Castes.
The meeting would discuss establishment of three special courts for speedy trial of 10,000 pending cases of atrocity in the state, violation of the rule for 38 per cent reservation in the field of education and employment, delay in construction of Jagjivan Ram hostels for dalit students and proper scrutiny of the Scheduled Castes.
Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Sindhe, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Union minister for social justice and empowerment Kumari Selja and NCSC chairman PL Punia would attend the conference.
A team of senior officials from Odisha including the Home secretary, SC and ST development secretary, Director General of Police and IG of SC and ST Cell would represent the state.
NCSC state Coordinator Haladhar Sethy has been invited to present a detailed report on problems of the dalits.
The Centre has asked certain data from Odisha about the implementation of component plan for the dalits as the state is lagging behind other states in implementing the plan.
