With a mission to empower youth to climb the ladder of success through sports, ‘Stairs’, a Delhi based NGO, has started working at the grassroots level of every district to select deserving sports persons.

“We will work at the grassroots level and aim to empower the youth by encouraging them to recognize their abilities and implement the same with a positive outlook in sports in the state,” said Siddhartha Upadhyay, founder of ‘Stairs’ while talking to the media persons here on Thursday.

Started from Delhi in 2000, Stairs has a presence in five other states – Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. It has now planned to set up shop in Odisha to identify hidden sporting talent from across the state, informed Upadhyay.

As many as 1.25 lakh plus youths were selected from these six states of which 250 youth reached the national level while four entered the international arena.

“We will follow a strategy of involving local community leaders to select the interested underprivileged youth from their regions in a game of their choice and provide training to them,” said the founder of Stairs.

The team will bear every expense of the individuals selected during their practice, including their sport kit, Upadhyay added.

“We will establish an equipped office in the State Capital with the presence of team of specialists like program coordinators, operation managers, volunteers, coaches, sociologists and accounts staffs,” Upadhyay said

“Today I met the sports minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi here, who welcomed our suggestions and assured us to provide a helping hand at every level,” he added.
