Bhubaneswar: The rift within State unit of Congress turned uglier as the senior leader Srikant Jena today resigned from all the committees of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
Three days after his removal by the AICC as the chairperson of Congress manifesto committee for Assembly election in Odisha, Jena quit as the member of Congress core and campaign committees.
His ouster from the party’s manifesto panel indicated his growing differences with PCC Chief Niranjan Patnaik.
On Dec 6, the AICC had appointed senior party leader Ganeswar Behera as the chairman of manifesto panel replacing former union minister Jena from the post.
Besides, nine others including State’s Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra and party’s former state president Prasad Harichandan were named as members of the manifesto committee.
Earlier, Congress Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati had hinted at Jena describing the latter as a ‘conspirator’ in the party.
If the reports to be believed, Jena had encouraged former Koraput legislator Krushna Chandra Sagaria to rebel against party’s leadership. Later, he stepped down as the MLA.
