Sri Sri University agribusiness exhibition kicks off in Odisha

Cuttack, Sept 19:

Sri Sri Agribition, a two-day exhibition on agriculture business, organised by Sri Sri University (SSU), began at the university premises at Bidyadharpur in Odisha’s Cuttack district today.

The aim of the exhibition is to offer technology transfer to the farming community, generate awareness among the agrarian community on efficient marketing processes for their produce, educate the community on low-cost package and practices and empower them with the knowledge of preparation of organic inputs and their application, a SSU press release said today.

Gracing the exhibition, Dr HS Singh, Director, Central Horticulture Experiment Station (CHES) spoke about improving the brand value and business aspect of agriculture in today’s world.

He said the farmers should be given the right price of the produce at the right time to improve their livelihood.

Director, Outreach, of SSU Dinesh Ghodke spoke about the importance of ancient agriculture techniques and the impact of genetically modified crops on the basic fabric of plants.

Dr Nedunchezhiyan, principal scientist, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) spoke about new technologies in cultivation of high yielding and drought resistant tuber crops with high calorific value while Dr Nihar Ranjan Nayak, senior scientist, Regional Plant Resource Centre (RPRC) spoke about the importance of tissue culture for indigenous crops and offered insights on varieties of banana, cactus and orchards.

SSU vice chancellor Dr KC Mishra, in his presidential address, spoke on the potential market of agro waste industry.

Among others, KC Mishra, founder, eKutir Rural Management Solutions also spoke.

The CTCRI, Pest Control Institute (PCI), CHES have opened stalls at the exhibition.

Farmers from the nearby areas of Naraj, Godisahi, Sandhapur and Marthapur and other districts of the state will take part in the exhibition, the SSU release said.
