Bhubaneswar: Clad in all shimmery black, India’s most versatile singer Sonu Nigam, took the crowd on a roller-coaster ride last evening in Odisha capital at the annual fest of KIIT University.
Sonu Nigam belted out 90’s romance with ‘deewana tera’ and ‘mujhe raat din’ and gave the feels of first love with ‘yeh dil deewana’ and ‘sooraj hua madham’. The crowd tirelessly cheered at the top of their voices for the evergreen singing sensation.
The highlight of the show was Sonu Nigam singing the Odia song ‘puchuki gali’ sung originally by him in the year 1995 for the movie Suna Panjuri. The singer set the stage on fire with his dance numbers ‘maria maria’, ‘bole chudiyan’ and ‘bijuria’ which he sang in the female voice, too!
Taking time out in between his songs, he did not forget to mention his love for Odisha and the people. His voice only made people drool over him a lot more!
One of his six-year-old fans, Subhranshu said, “I love his songs! Someday I wish to sing like him.”
The crowd went quiet and all mesmerized when the guitar strings hit the chords of ‘Sapna Jahan’ and Sonu Nigam with the Indian Idol 9 contestant Manya Narang cast a spell with their beautiful voices.
In a brief interaction with Odisha Sun Times, Sonu Nigam expressed his desire to sing Odia songs, “It’s lovely being here. I have sung a few Odia songs but it’s been long. I would love to sing more Odia songs if I get a chance.” Sonu Nigam also said that he is coming up with something for his fans soon. “I am working on a single and the details will be revealed soon,” he added.
Sonu Nigam wrapped up the spell-binding evening with his two heart-touching tracks, “Abhi mujhme kahin’ and ‘Kal ho na ho’. The concluding song defined the entire essence of life and somehow the feeling fans had at his show last night- ‘Har pal yahan, jee bhar jiyo, jo hai samaa, kal ho na ho’!
