Mercury in Phulbani and Daringbadi almost plummeted to freezing point today as cold wave conditions continued to sweep Odisha.
According to regional meteorological office, the cold wave conditions would continue for two more days.
The minimum temperatures in Phulbani and Daringbadi called as Odisha’s Kashmir dropped to 2 degree Celsius today. People in the district witnessed snowfall in these areas. The streets wore a deserted look till late in the day and people returned to indoors early in the evening.
The state-level winter festival and the Pallishree festival which began from Friday witnessed good footfall considering the chilly conditions prevailing in the Kandhamal district.
Cold wave conditions prevailed in interior and coastal parts of the state. As may as 14 places in the state recorded sub 10 level temperature. Sundergarh 5.5 degree C, Titilagarh 6.5 degree C, Jharsuguda and Angul recorded 6.6 degree C, Hirakud 7.3 degree C, Keonjhar 7.5 degree C, Bolangir and Koraput recorded 8 degree C, Sambalpur 8.3 degree C and Baripada shivered at 9 degree C.
