Bhubaneswar: In view of increasing number of vehicles and parking issues in the city, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) started a new programme called ‘Smart Share Parking’ to address the problem effectively.
Under the system, both the government and private land will be used for parking. The unused land on road side will be used by the BMC for parking on rent.
A tender will be made comprising of various areas in some locations of the state capital for which people will not have to pay more parking fee, said BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar.
The smart sharing parking system will be introduced in some crowded places in the smart city. There will be underground parking in the government land and the private land will be used on rent for few years for parking, Kumar said.
Initially, the system will soon start in busy areas like Cuttack Road and Janpath. Around 3 acre belonging to Sports department behind Ram Mandir is lying unused. We are planning to make underground parking system there. The land will be brought on lease from the sports department. As the parking system will be made under the ground, the sports department can do its project on the ground, he said.
Similarly, around 2 acre of Panchayatiraj department is lying vacant near Kalpana square and we are planning to use it for parking purpose, Kumar added.
Besides, Construction of two proposed underground parking systems in Raj Mahal and Sahid Nagar areas will begin within a month.
The BMC is also planning to use few schools’ playground for parking under the programme. The parking system will be made under the playground and there will be no parking there during school hours. The school authorities can use the playground during the period. Those parking places will be used from 5 pm till late night. The discussion for the plan is underway. We will take decision regarding it very soon, Kumar further said.
