Shir Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today suspended a staff for stealing donation money of Lord Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri.
According to reports, the temple administration found the accused employee identified as Uma Rath guilty of stealing money while counting of the donations put in the Hundi (donation box) of Nata Mandir.
This evening, the Hundi was opened in the presence of Damodar Panda, Dharanidhar Nayak, Uma Rath and Jalandhar Behera. While the cash was being transported, Uma allegedly took out two notes of Rs 2000 denominations. Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) official Pradeep Jena spotted the act and informed this to the SJTA officials.
Following complaints, the CCTV footage was scanned which reportedly found him making off with the money.
When Uma was confronted, he refuted the allegations. However, the currencies were found from his possession during search. The matter was reported to SJTA Chief Administrator Suresh Mohapatra by Ritual Administrator (Niti Prasashak) Pradeep Das.
Mohapatra placed Rath under suspension and served a show cause notice to him.
