Bhubaneswar: After a brief respite from searing heat, the sizzling summer returned to haunt people as eight towns in the State recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius today.
Western Odisha district Bolangir boiled at 42.7 deg C, the highest temperature in the State, a Met office release said.
Angul (40.7), Jharsugada (41.7), Hirakud (41.1), Talcher (42), Sonepur (42.4) and Bhawanipatna (40), it added.
Residents of Bhubaneswar too reeled under scorching heat today as the State capital recorded 36.9 deg C while Cuttack at 36.4.
Meanwhile, the local office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued lightning and thunderstorm warning for six districts from 6.45 pm to 10.45 pm.
Latest doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with with hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph likely to occur over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati and Khurda, the IMD release said.
