With the infant death toll at Sishu Bhavan in Odisha’s millennium city mounting to 59 today with the death of five infants, the Health department has initiated departmental action against six staff who have been placed under suspension.
The five deceased infants belong to Puri, Khordha, Khandagiri (Bhubaneswar), Chandikhol (Jajpur) and Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) locality.
On the other hand, the Health department, on the basis of the departmental inquiry report, has placed two staff nurses, three attendants and a sweeper under suspension while cases have been registered against three attendants.
Besides, two staff nurses have been transferred elsewhere.
To provide better treatment facility, the department has appointed seven senior resident doctors in Sishu Bhavan.
Meanwhile, a six-member team of specialist paediatric doctors today arrived here from New Delhi today.
The team, during its 15-day stay, will assist the health care services in Sishu Bhavan.
